The reading for Friday, July 28, 2023 , is Isaiah 5 - 7

Isaiah 5 - 7   The first part of this reminds me of the Song of Solomon until he says what he will do with the vineyard.  7:16, Before the boy knows how to  refuse the evil and choose the good. What does that mean? How do I always know which is which? How do I do it consistently? Paul says that he does the very things that he doesn't want to do.

The reading for Thursday, July 27, 2023 , is Isaiah 2 - 4

Isaiah 2 - 4   I find the prophets difficult reading. However, I do look forward to the day when we will not learn war anymore. In the meantime, we must not be pulled aside by the treasures of this earth, but keep our eyes on Jesus.

The reading for Wednesday, July 26, 2023 , is Song of Solomon 7 – 8 & Isaiah 1

Song of Solomon 7 – 8 & Isaiah 1 I find the prophets difficult to read, but here, as we begin Isaiah, the people of Israel, and us by extension, are called to do right, not engage in ritual for it's own sake.

Ecclesiastes 5 - 7   6 days behind. Better late than never.  Vanity of vanities. It is like chasing after the wind.

The reading for Friday, July 21, 2023 , is Ecclesiastics 2 – 4

Ecclesiastes 2 – 4   I'm almost 1 week behind. Ecclesiastes is my favorite book of the entire (Protestant) Bible. Our purpose is made clear in this book. I find that comforting. As a mental health professional, I also think each of us has to find our own purpose that fits into God's purpose. As I type, I remember my mother saying, as I dreamed of what I would be when I grow up, "Then be a good, Christian (fill in occupation)." To Everything There is a Season

The reading for Thursday, July 20, 2023 , is Proverbs 30 - 31 & Ecclesiastics 1

Image
Proverbs 30 - 31 & Ecclesiastes 1   As I finish Proverbs this evening, I am struck by how Proverbs started out talking about Wisdom as a woman. Today, Proverbs ended with showing the daily life/tasks of a woman who reveres the Lord: A wise woman.

The reading for Thursday, July 13, 2023 , is Proverbs 7 - 9

Image
Proverbs 7 - 9   Here we have a juxtaposition between Wisdom and Prostitution. I love that Wisdom is personified as woman. Not only a woman, but a Woman with God at the Beginning.  Who will you follow? Who will you call?

Psalms  140 -142   I got to wondering about the reason for putting oil on the head. A quick google search shows that nobody knows. Well to be more accurate, everybody knows, but it's for all different kinds of reasons ranging from signifying status/designation to a accepted part of daily hygiene.

The reading for Friday, July 7, 2023 , is Psalms 137 - 139

Well, I'm almost a week behind again. I was getting up and doing this blog firs thing in the morning. Lately, I've been sleeping in a bit more.  I feel better, so I'll probably keep sleeping in. That means I'll need to find another time to do this. I haven't found a time yet. I've also been out of town over the past weekend that mixes up any schedule I might have.  Still here are more Psalms.  Psalms 137-139 By the Waters of Babylon

The reading for Thursday, July 6, 2023 , is Psalms 134 - 136

Psalms 134 - 136 Here we are told to bless the Lord. I think I ask the Lord to bless me. I hesitate as I write Lord. I think of ways He is not Lord of my life--things I want to hold unto.  His steadfast love endures forever.

Psalm 128-130 Once again, I am caught up. If you get behind, you can catch up. If you just want to jump in and join us here in the middle, please do!! I noticed that in this particular group of Psalms each is called a Song of Ascent. What does that mean? Nobody knows for sure it seems. Here is what Wikipedia says:  Song of Ascents  Waiting:

Psalms 125 – 127   3 more beautiful Psalms!!

The reading for Sunday, July 2, 2023 , is Psalms 120 - 122

Psalms 120 - 122   Somewhere, some time ago, I heard that of the things the Bible tells us to pray for, one is the peace of Jerusalem.

The reading for Saturday, July 1, 2023 , is Psalms 117 – 119

Image
Psalms 117 – 119   Psalm 119 is the longest of the Psalms. To listen to it took about 16 minutes. To me, it is a beautiful testament to David's love for the Lord.  This is the Day that the Lord has Made                                                            Psalm 119:105

The reading for Friday, June 30, 2023 , is Psalms 114 – 116

Psalms 114 – 116   The Sacrifice of Praise I've made it to Friday. To catch up, I'd need to be on Sunday. That's not for tonight, but, hopefully, I'll get caught up, and even ahead again soon. The reading for Wednesday, June 28, 2023 , is Psalms 108 - 110

Psalm 108-110   As I read these, it seems to me that David was also a prophet as these writings sometimes tell of things to come.

The reading for Tuesday, June 27, 2023 , is Psalms 105 – 107

I am almost a week behind!! The Psalms aren't difficult!! What's gonna happen when I get to the prophets? I find them boring and hard to follow. The Psalms are beautiful!! Psalms 105 – 107   Praise the Lord and seek Him!! Go Down, Moses Alone With God Peace, Be Still!
